How to Measure Your Kitchen Doors
Getting the measurements right is the most important step. Follow our simple guide and your doors will fit perfectly first time.
What You Will Need
Tape Measure
A good quality tape measure is essential. Make sure it reads clearly in millimetres.
Pencil & Paper
Write every measurement down immediately. Don't rely on memory — label each door clearly as you go.
Good Lighting
Make sure you can see the tape measure clearly. Misreading a measurement by even 1mm can cause problems.
Measuring Your Existing Doors
The easiest and most accurate way to measure for replacement doors is to measure your existing doors directly — not the cabinet opening.
Remove an Existing Door
Unscrew one of your existing cabinet doors from its hinges. Lay it flat on a clean, flat surface. This gives you the most accurate measurement possible.
Remove from hinges firstMeasure the Width
Measure the door from the left edge to the right edge at its widest point. Always measure in millimetres (mm) for accuracy.
Record WIDTH in mmMeasure the Height
Measure the door from the top edge to the bottom edge at its longest point. Again, use millimetres only.
Record HEIGHT in mmNote Hinge Hole Positions
If you want pre-drilled hinge holes, measure from the top and bottom of the door to the centre of each hinge hole. Note the hinge cup size — usually 35mm.
Standard hinge cup = 35mmRepeat for Every Single Door
Even doors that look identical can differ slightly. Measure every single door individually and label them clearly — e.g. "top left", "bottom right" — so you know which is which when they arrive.
Label each door clearlyWhat to Measure
Use this diagram as a reference when measuring your doors. The width is the horizontal measurement and the height is the vertical measurement. Always measure at the widest and tallest points.
Note the hinge positions from the top and bottom of the door — these are needed if you want us to pre-drill hinge holes for you.
Measuring from the Cabinet Opening
If you don't have existing doors to measure from, you can measure the cabinet opening (aperture) instead.
For a standard overlay door — the most common type — measure the opening width and height, then add an overlay of approximately 2mm on each side.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Measure in Millimetres Only
Centimetres and inches leave too much room for error. Always use millimetres for kitchen door measurements.
Don't Assume All Doors Match
Even in the same kitchen, doors that look identical can differ. Always measure every door individually.
Measure the Door, Not the Opening
Remove an existing door and measure it directly. This is always more accurate than measuring the cabinet opening.
Double Check Before Ordering
Put your tape away, then measure again from scratch. If both measurements match, you're good to go.
Label Everything Clearly
Write each measurement with a clear label, e.g. "top left door — 400 × 700mm" to avoid confusion on delivery.
